Product Manager

Summary

The Product Manager, Metalworking is responsible for the entire metalworking product line, including the management of product development priorities. This includes necessary expansion and contraction of products in order to meet market needs, production efficiencies and continued growth expectations of the metalworking division. This position is strategic in nature and is intended to work in collaboration with the Global Marketing Manager on product positioning and intended market penetration of the product line.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize and communicate with the metalworking formulation chemists to ensure proper project direction and maintain the product development priorities list
  • Communicate with the Sales Force to provide updates regarding all necessary product management issues
  • Schedule and conduct monthly product development meetings
  • Develop and maintain a list of product testing and evaluation sites for field evaluation of developmental products
  • Organize and conduct monthly PT&E meetings
  • Review stocking list to maintain proper inventory of primary products and to facilitate specific customer requirements
  • Review and rationalize product line on an as needed basis
  • Establish pricing for new products and review and implement price adjustments as needed
  • Review product margins and set pricing strategy to meet company profitability goals
  • Assist Sales and Sales Management with product recommendations
  • Investigate opportunities to meet unique application needs for future product development activities
  • Work in conjunction with Product Development, Purchasing Key Suppliers and Vendors to support Product Development on selection of new and alternative supply of raw materials
  • Assist in the process of transfer of technology for international manufacturing and inventory control of QualiChem products
  • Assist in the process of troubleshooting raw material issues working with Purchasing, Quality Control and Product Development

Qualifications

  • Good communication skills are vital, both written and verbal
  • Good organizational skills are required to manage complex projects
  • Candidate must be able to work within a matrix environment coordinating cross functional team members
  • Good sales skills are essential to convey product differentiation to the sales force and provide guidance to sales on product recommendations
  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment
  • Candidate is expected to maintain good working relationships with key vendors and suppliers
  • Strategic thinking is a key element in the successful execution of product management responsibilities

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering or related technical degree; and/or 5-7 years’ experience with metalworking fluids sales, technical or product management experience.

Travel

This position will require some travel as needed, both domestic and international, that will include: customer visits, industry trade events and various sales meetings.
